Drum sound wise I really only use electronic sounds so I don't really need any acoustic drums but I figured for only $50 more (and if they can 'comfortably' be installed on an external HD) I might as well get the box. I'm on a MBP with only about 40GB of space so I won't be installing Session Drums on the internal hard drive. The reason I need to know is because whether or not in can be done (and how much of a pain it is to use them once it's done) will probably be the deciding factor on whether or not I get the box or the download. Has there ever been a definitive answer on whether or not this works/is a good idea? I've been reading threads on the subject for two days and it seems that some have had ok luck with it, some have had no luck with it, some say 'it can't be done', etc. I'm wondering about installing Session Drums on an external hard drive. The one that's been discussed a million times: I was looking at the Downloads page on the Ableton site and saw this stuff:Ĭontains a collection of Live Packs which install content for Drum Machines.Ĭontains additional presets and MIDI grooves for Session Drums.Īre those just additional content? I suppose it doesn't even really matter, I'm just curious. Two questions, one is probably idiotic and the other has probably been discussed 8 millions times so I apologize for both. From here, you can use VST plugins as instruments in tracks, and create MIDI parts that trigger them. Can I move the Live packs content to an external hard drive? Session Drums. Choose the Third-Party Packs folder that you created. Live will recognize it as a third-party Pack and ask where to install it.

That's it! This tutorial covered how to setup your VST plugins folder in Ableton Live, how to find plug-in devices and add them to a track, and how to change VST presets and paramters using both the Ableton Live and a plugin's custom VST editor. Create a folder on your computer or external hard drive called Third-Party Packs. Want to fatten up SodaSynth's sounds a bit, try adding a little bit of chorus or delay using the built-in Ableton Live effects. Right-clicking on a parameter allows you to set up automation curves and MIDI mappings for that parameter.Ĭreate a MIDI part and in the track that you added the SodaSynth VST instrument to, and either record from your MIDI keyboard or start writing a melody in the MIDI editor.
